Major Cloudburst Hits Dharali Near Harsil In Uttarkashi, Several Feared Missing

Several feared missing as major cloudburst struck Dharali near Harsil in Uttarkashi district of Uttarakhand on Tuesday resultant in panic and potential damage in the region, Uttarkashi District Magistrate Prashant Arya said.

Uttarkashi police stated that the rising water levels in Kheer Gadh, Harsil, have caused damage in Dharali. Relief and rescue operations are underway with the deployment of police, SDRF, army, and other disaster response teams.

Uttarakhand CM Pushkar Singh Dhami stated that various teams are working for together in relief and rescue operations on a war footing.

“The news of heavy damage caused by a cloudburst in the Dharali (Uttarkashi) region is extremely sad and distressing. SDRF, NDRF, district administration, and other related teams are engaged in relief and rescue operations on a war footing. In this regard, I am in constant contact with senior officials, and the situation is being closely monitored. I pray to God for everyone’s safety,” Dhami said.

Uttarakhand has been experiencing continuous heavy rainfall over the past few days, causing major rivers, including the Ganga in Haridwar, to swell.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has also issued a ‘red’ alert for extremely heavy rainfall in the state today, along with a ‘yellow’ alert for heavy rain expected throughout the week.
